Many of the downloads available are at much lower bitrates than what was originally on the disc. I don’t believe AAC is transparent at it’s top bitrate.Īs you lower the bit rate, obviously you lose some of that transparency. ![]() This means in double-blind tests, people without blown-out hearing can’t tell the difference between the compressed digital signal and the uncompressed original source. I’m probably not the best one to ask about audio quality.Īs far as I know, at their top bitrates, both AC3 and DTS claim transparency. mp3 (which cuts out at 16kHz) sounds identical to the untouched CD track. I used to be able to hear up to 25kHz when I was young… but from age and from blowing my hearing out, I usually test in the 13-14kHz range nowadays. That way, when I ever get a receiver, I can choose whatever surround I want without having to go back and re-rip/re-encode. My encodes contain the 2.0 AC3, the 5.1 AC3 and the 5.1 DTS (if present on the master). re-coding a 640k 5.1 AC3 track to 348k 5.1 AC3 has very little impact on the file size – it’s not like it cuts it in half.Īt the minute, I only have stereo at the TV (no surround receiver), but I still rip all the audio. Especially when the video track takes up such a large proportion of the file. ![]() If you’re having trouble with the 5.1 AAC files, I’d suggest using something like Popcorn MKVAudioConverter to turn them into 5.1 AC3 (or other tools for other containers).Īs for space, this is something that I’ve personally never bothered with. WD developers could try to reproduce this problem and probably solve this in the final release.īut there are some material on internet (Apple side) with AAC audio as multichannel track and this is absolutly mute…Īlso i’m testing AAC coding to value space/quality rate in order to use the better solution to store all my video material.įor this last point, what do you think about AAC quality respect AC3 and DTS (both not HD) and thair space occupation?ĪAC is better in space/quality or AC3 or DTS is stilthebetter solution? A work around will be very welcome, because I will not take another video-edit program as my favorite. I like to hear from readers of this message, about their experiences concerning this problem. So, WDTV-live is the only player who refuses to play them. Also when Nero makes a diskcopy of well playing Video DVD’s made by this Magix program, WDTV-live does not show the menu.ī.t.w.: these Magix ISO files play well on a PC-harddisk with PC players like Nero Show Time, PowerDVD 10 deluxe and Windows Media-player. ![]() However: My favourite Video-edit program Magix Videodeluxe 17 premium refuses to deliver ISO images capable to play DVD-menu within WDTV-live. Also downloaded ISO films almost all of them play menu’s perfect. Playing DVD-menus: My Video DVD’s which are burned with Nero 9 and Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 played the menu in WDTV-live very well. No problems at all, playing different formats of films (blue ray included) The manual of this TV does not show me whether 12 bits should be possible. Forcing manual in the configuration menu to 12 bits, seemed to succeed one time, but went after a total power down automatic to 8 bits again. This report is viewable on the TV screen every time the WDTV-live build up his connection. TV connection: Automatic recognized the HDMI connection in a first step to 720p then continuing to 1050p and 8 bits color depth definitive every time. WDTV-Live Firmware before this Beta one is 1.02.21, nothing to complain only DVD-Menu was on my wish list. ![]() WDTV-Live (WDBAAP0000NBK-00-EESN) (dec 2009) connected with hdmi 1.3 cat2 (König) 2x0,75meter, directly to Panasonic Plasma TV (TH-46PZ85EA) via Logilink Video Switch HDMI 3 Port + amplifier. Not sure whether 12 bits color depth should be possible (1050p 8bits is 100% possible) About the Video-quality, audio-sync etc, I have no complaints at all. However, DVD’s made by Nero 9 or Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 play DVD-menu’s 100% well. The only problem for me is the unplayable DVD-menu in ISO containers of Video DVD’s, made by my Magix Videodeluxe 17 premium video-edit program. Résumé: I am very well surprised about the positive results of this firmware development. Unplayable DVD-menu in ISO containers of Video DVD’s, made by my Magix Videodeluxe 17 premium New: Tested the new firmware Beta release 1.03.43-V (my former firmware stable 1.02.21)
